Her most engaging performance ever was for Jacques Demy in his intoxicating musical The Young Girls of Rochefort. But her sister Francoise Dorleac got the best lines and some of the most engaging scenes with Gene Kelly who was still able to hoof it gloriously and keep pace with these comparative youngsters. It’s one of the greatest Musicals in screen history. Demy’s beautiful coincidences bowl me over with their charm and outrageously bold strokes from start to finish. I never wanted the colliding narratives to stop.
